Gays had their own special places and straight people avoided them like the plague, keeping their damn kids out of our adult activities. Simpler times, my friends.
Seriously how hard is that. Be as degenerate as you want in your own places, pretend to be normal enough in public that normal people can go about their lives without thinking about it.
It's almost as if degenerates can't help themselves. Almost as if degeneracy is a mental and spiritual disorder that shouldn't be tolerated at all, even in "it's own place."

IMO it is a part of human nature that needs to be managed. We would also be better off if the people with the bottom 10% iq didn't exist but that would just create another bottom 10% to deal with.
And while I agree it is a mental illness there is a difference between a person who is sane enough to reasonably mask his deficiencies while in public and those who can't.
70 years ago we had all sorts of social sanctions against degeneracy. Including PSAs warning kids about the dangers of homosexuals. They couldn't serve in the military, they wouldn't be hired for any public-facing job or working with kids. And mainly property and business owners could choose not to associate with known or even suspected degenerates without any legal sanction.
That seems like a reasonable balance. No need to "root them out" if they don't make themselves impossible to ignore.
I agree with you, but a society that thinks fags can "have their own place" or "what adults do in private is their own business" is not a society that will shame an open fag into losing his social standing and economic prospects.
It can be an unspoken agreement that as long as the governor has a beard, no one says anything. But the spoken rhetoric has to be one of zero tolerance. Anything less is a concession.
Not even that. Gays weren't concentrated enough to have special places. There were just a handful of gay people in a region and they basically knew each other. Everyone knew they were gay, and most of the time, nobody would bother one another.
I wouldn't call those ghettos, and most of those concentrations were still taking place only during and after the "Sexual Revolution".
The picture is still specifically talking about the 50's, which is prior. Sodomy is still illegal in most states, so you really can't do anything openly. Most gays in the country are going to live as no more than a handful of people in a region.
LOL. The gay ghettos were not ghettos per-se, they were concentration points where gays moved because they were cheap, no one asked questions, and cops rarely came there. It changed from time to time due to economics, but gay people have always had a so-called gay ghetto in major US cities. It was the closeted ones who tried to blend in by getting married or teenagers/college kids just starting out in life who got caught up in all the sodomy charges, because they were the ones trying to be discreet in all the wrong ways and places. Gay persecution is a sad history, but hardly unique. This all started long before the 1950s but the golden age of the ghettos began in the 50s as many people fled the inner cities to the suburbs. A lot of places suddenly stopped caring about who you fucked as long as you paid the rent.

The slippery slope was all too real.

I meant the historic gay ghettos like Boy's Town in Chicago, Chelsea/the Village, NYC, and San Francisco.

they knew to keep it in private.
