‘Enforced childbirth is slavery’: Margaret Atwood on the right to abortion (archive.ph)

Nobody likes abortion, even when safe and legal. It’s not what any woman would choose for a happy time on Saturday night. But nobody likes women bleeding to death on the bathroom floor from illegal abortions either. What to do?

Well we can start by holding women accountable for their decisions, I know this is an insane request, but worth trying.

Perhaps a different way of approaching the question would be to ask: What kind of country do you want to live in? One in which every individual is free to make decisions concerning his or her health and body, or one in which half the population is free and the other half is enslaved?

Ah yes women are victims when they can’t murder something that occurred from their choices. How shocking, Atwood proves yet again that she can’t write anything even slightly factual.

Women who cannot make their own decisions about whether or not to have babies are enslaved because the state claims ownership of their bodies and the right to dictate the use to which their bodies must be put.

Notice the supposed ‘slave’ claims a completely different human being deserves to die because apparently women are not capable of choice.

The only similar circumstance for men is conscription into an army. In both cases there is risk to the individual’s life, but an army conscript is at least provided with food, clothing, and lodging. Even criminals in prisons have a right to those things. If the state is mandating enforced childbirth, why should it not pay for prenatal care, for the birth itself, for postnatal care, and – for babies who are not sold off to richer families – for the cost of bringing up the child?

Ahhh yes, conscription is better than childbirth because we don’t currently fund millions of single moms far more than the average “conscript”….. oh wait. This is a child who has never actually done anything in life other than fantasize about being a victim.

Nobody likes abortion, even when safe and legal.

Atwood lied in the very opening sentence of her article, of course there are people who like abortions. Just look at the myriad Lilithian demoniacs who in just the past few years have proudly 'shouted their abortions', celebrated with cakes on Twitter, declared it sacred and are now openly plotting to attack churches tomorrow because Trump's Justices have threatened their most sacred rite.

or one in which half the population is free and the other half is enslaved?

I will accept this argument only when a father can legally choose not to pay child support. Until then, its just more entitlement for women

I may be a bit of an extremist here, but I actually do want women who choose to have an illegal abortion to pay with their lives. Anyone who chooses to willingly kill the most defenseless human being possible deserve to pay with their life.

One in which every individual is free to make decisions concerning his or her health and body, or one in which half the population is free and the other half is enslaved?

I agree entirely. Men are forced to work, sometimes in very dangerous conditions, risking health and body but even in "mild" work, to pay for child support and/or ex-spousal support payments. And they will not have freedom, literally enslaved in that if they do not work despite not wanting to, they will be put into prison. This is the default of courts, a well-studied and well-known bias amongst even the most fervent of intersectionalists, but no one wants to address the issue. Truly, Atwood is based.

Oh wait, she's just projecting her sexual Handmaids kinks on us, nevermind.
