Every gene in your body programs for something of your proper height though. It's the same for intelligence. It would be very unfair if a 'IQ pill' were invented that allowed everyone to become smart, even though you really aren't.
Physically speaking his new height would be legitimate, so long as the tape measurer backs it up. The real issue is that 5'10 is nothing over 5'7 and the girls he's insecure about would laugh at him.
