So turns out they purely did this for virtue signaling reasons because they get all their search results from Bing which said they were going to block results too.

DuckDuckGo has little control over its search results because they are provided by Microsoft’s Bing, which announced that it would follow the European Union’s order to restrict access to the Russian state news agencies RT and Sputnik.
All they had to say was "we won't be showing Russian results because Bing won't be showing Russian results" but hey... that would point out they're not really a search engine company and why not get some "good boy" points for acting all virtuous.
The problem is that 'disinformation' has become a subjective term to mean "something that disagrees with what I think".
It used to identify lies, like "The USA is not conducting operations in China.... " - "Really, why is that GI over there standing over the body of a dead Chinese dude with an m16 round in his brain?"
Now it is more or less "I do not agree with your opinon..." - "THATS DiSinFOrmAtIOn!!!!!!!!!!!"

They did cut ties with Yandex, though.
Haha that is more pathetic than the downranking, especially considering their employee's defense of the move on twitter.
Why use DDG if theyre literally just a secondhand bing?
I don't understand the value of DuckDuckGo if they're nothing more than a Bing skin. Am I missing something?
This makes me want to befriend Russians even more now. I understand they are great drinking buddies.
One good thing about all this is a lot more people will be using Yandex
