They're not doing well now, but from the sounds of things, they're going for longer term goals with VR. There is likely also a pretty healthy number of boomers/Gen X/millenials that stayed on FB or Insta that may keep the business from sinking too quickly.

I'm very bearish on this.
What they pumped out took 5 days to make. It's not a serious effort at a VR social network, it's the shoddiest little app ever made, that is 30x worse than existing and popular programs like VRchat.
Look at how awful it looks, and how few features it has. From the company that owns oculus!
It's not a serious program, it's a "oh shit, our stock has fallen, hey boomer investors look at how futuristic and cutting edge we are..." messaging campaign.
Meta with its instagram, oculus, facebook and whatsapp might live on.
Meta VR as a social media platform isn't a serious thing. I'm not saying they might not ever turn it into a serious thing. But what they have shown is clearly a rush job very suspiciously shown right after their stocks take a tumble.
It would be nice if section 230 protections were scaled back for monopolies, especially for Wikipedia which is considered a goddamn publisher rather than a platform based on apolitical common sense.
This, why do we have to treat corps the same as individuals or small businesses? I should be able to run a forum site with the same s230 protections that exist today, but if an entity like Facebook wants to regulate speech they should have special restrictions that are in the public interest.
That wouldn't help, since he would be able to avoid arrest. If they want to do something that is effective, it would have to be something that he cannot avoid.
Russia has other ways as well. If it follows the American precedent, then it gives itself the right to assassinate any Facebook employee anywhere on earth.
When a publisher comes out and officially says they will allow death threats against one side that pretty much makes them an extremist to that side.
Honestly this. Russia has every reason to declare them an enemy of the state
Pretty much all of silicon valley is an extremist organization, no quotation marks needed.
Hopefully their retarded policies raise the standard of living to such an absurd degree that they no longer have easy access to menials.
I would love to see the starve on their own arrogance.
Russia in 3 months
Maybe not technologically, but people will definitely be better off without corporate boot on their necks.
Errr... Do you have a weird image of Russia in your head?

Theyre a shadow arm of the government.
Theres no way theyd even be allowed to fail.
Ok but that's a different argument.

Sure would be nice if Section 230 was reformed...

based
Lol, it's like looking into a mirror
Probably shouldn't explicitly break your own rules to target Russians.
Faceboot/Meta or what ever it calls its self is a cancer and will kill you eventually.
Wish the U.S.A would do this, but unfortunately the extremists are already in power.
Totally justified. I agree 100% and more countries should start doing it.
hhhahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahaha
do it russians, i support ya here.
Neither side is the good guys here
Overall I agree, but in this specific action Russia made the right move and it's the least I would do in their position.
That is the universal truth in war.
However, modern Russia is not my enemy, as many of the people who caused the U.S.S.R were either purged or infiltrated America.

A hypersonic missile fits that description.
The only way I can see it being enforced would be to abduct him.

Or Polonium.
The Russians love that stuff.
