One of my best friends who is also a life long comic book collector (he has around 10k and I have a little over 5k) sent me a post from a website he had come across and figured I would get a good laugh. It basically was from one of the shill nerd sites saying that women make up roughly half of all comic book readers/collectors. I have a hard time believing that. I know they use that stat for video games, but when you break it down you see certain games are way more male dominated and games like Candy Crush are female dominated.
I am a big fan of Nerdrotic and he mentioned that there was a time that he actively tried to get more women to come to his store and at most the ratio was 70/30 or 65/35. That sounds more accurate. Now with Manga I don't know because I seen Manga appealing to men and women. As for hardcore collectors, I have only met one woman who had multiple longboxes (unfortunately she already had a boyfriend). Not saying they aren't out there of course, but I haven't seen them
That 50/50 ratio has to be skewed right? Or they are including Manga?
This constant push for women to get into comic books doesn't seem to have the desired effect besides pushing out the main fanbase.
Also have to remember people who think they are into comic books because they saw some MCU films
How did she get the sex of comic book buyers? (especially in comic shops)
Also what are the total numbers? If companies started marketing towards girls at the expense of boys, then the percent of girls represented could go up while total sales go down. Not a healthy market.
That's what I figured. That is some interesting information.
Your comic shop doesnt ask you to pull out your johnson whenever you're at checkout?
It's usually just considered voluntary to do that at mine.
the big tittie comics check out girl asks me to show mine. def not fanfic
There are also web comics. Korean comics (manwha) are basically one long web page.
Thanks
They make this claim all the time with women, it's never true. It's always claimed to justify an agenda.
I believe Phil Spencer made the claim, "50% of all women are gamers, so we're going to ban toxicity so gaming is SAFER!"
If there's any doubt as to the true goal of "inclusivity", 50% female should be "mission accomplished" instead of "ban some more shit to make it more inclusive."
That gaming stat breaks down when you look at it closer if I remember
With manga you have every sexually confused “women” to add to the padding, 100% the trannys make up more comic viewers than actual women.
There's also the BL genre (homoerotic males aimed at female readers). There's some sports manga that aren't BL, but definitely set the fuel for "pairing" in the minds of female fans.
Tbf, manga is way more diverse, content-wise, than Western comics. There are whole genres written specifically for women and girls. I could see how that could change the demographics of comic readership.
Good question. I have no idea either but if that's even a "real" stat it's probably from some survey where they asked "do you read comic books?" and girls just said yes to virtue signal.
And there are people who think watching an MCU movie makes them a comic book expert.
It's really about corporatizing and homogenizing all entertainment media to conform to the New Religion that we've been Politically Correct to since the 1980s, it's just starting to reveal itself. "Oh, you're hungry for a job in a cushy field? Feel oppressed? ARE YOU WILLING TO SELL YOUR SOUL AND WRITE WHAT WE WANT YOU TO?"
True about political correctness but I remember in the 90s political correctness was mocked. But it was there.
Yeah, it came out of nowhere around 1984 or 1985, with comedians talking about how "they" wanted to change "manhole covers" to "personhole covers", wasn't that silly and outrageous? Thing is, who the fuck was "they"? No one was asking for this. Until the comedians started this and parroted each other, and the next thing you know, the suffix -ess is banned from the English language.
Readers, as in people who are in the vicinity of comics at any given time? its very possible. I am sure they counted neets mothers as women 'near' comics.
And as I’ve mentioned before when the MCU movies came out so many people considered themselves comic book fans because they watched a movie of bought a shirt.
I bet thats the audience theyre talking about. These faggots who watch mcu and think theyre nerds are a pox, and need to be sent to china for a day. or three
