Looks like an illegal sublet/division of an already small apartment. Stupid fucking New Yorkers. This is why their shithole is a shithole, they want it to be.
this. happens all the time. landlords do shit like this all the time when rent control perverts pricing. look at that stupid fucking sheet. that's the entryway to the apartment, not a bedroom.
visited some friends in DC which is notorious for the same bullshit... a lot of those rowhouses are only 2 or 3 bedrooms. and because some are in historical areas, they can't really be renovated to increase the density legally. so landlords "split" them into 6 or 7 bedrooms with hacks like this. not joking, one of the guys was literally living in the walk-in closet of another bedroom. or they use those japanese style dividers down the middle of the room and call it a "suite".
the market only bears what people are willing to pay for. if you're willing to live in a shithole, they'll make you pay out your ass for a shithole.
Which is why the Pod people are a thing. There's people living in SF and other notorious lefty havens in fucking shared bedrooms, people are fucking stupid, they will probably be fine with little caged rooms 2x3 meters because they love the "bar and art scene".
Those people you cannot help, just be vigilant that apartments outside of the big city won't turn into this shit.
yeah, after undergrad, i've always lived in semi-metro apartments/condos. living literally downtown is always a fucking dumpsterfire. the downtown area of my city is practically all 17-20 year olds with fake IDs and homeless people pissing/shitting on themselves. i'm almost 40... what the fuck do i want that shit for?
