Make your overseas trip one to remember (for the right reasons) - emigrate.

Oh, you DID get that ad, then..?

How... Odd. I wonder why they do that...

Come on Imp, gimme a shout out next time! :-P

Free internet points, and all that, lol...

Edit: Never mind, you did. Kudos. Cheers!

To clarify... There's definitely only one, that we've seen so far, which is this same one.

I just accidentally misquoted, and fucked up the numbers, which is what has confused everyone since. My bad...

There may well be more, though. I'll keep my eye out, and also ask other Aussies ( u/Ricwulf, u/subbookkeeper) if they have seen any others...

sigh... For now, yes, most "democratic" states seemingly do (but notably not Brazil. I don't know where else... Russia?), which, when you consider things right now, seems bizarre...

If anything, it just proves that a place like Australia, with the appearance of being a "liberal democracy" can get away with shit that other countries (Israel, Brazil, Belarus, Russia) cannot, without triggering some form of "sanctions" or at least "censure"... :-/

Fun times.

Sanctions are not imposed on countries like Belarus or Russia because they are not 'liberal democracies', but because they are not governed by puppets of the American regime. The human rights stuff is just a pretext.

Oh no, it was this (exact) one. I was completely off by an order of magnitude, and should probably edit my original comment... Apologies.

What happened, then: I also visited this page, and got this ad. I thought "What the actual fuck?", clicked on it, it took me to the linked page. Presumably the same one you got...

I then went to try and share the image in a post, here. But my phone immediately crashed, taking the screenshots, and the linked page, with it...

So I tried searching for it, and got nothing, except other vague threats of fines and jail time, for various "covid-y" things related to the border, presumably from the same agency. Followed the link again - it wouldn't give me this same ad, the next time.

Then I wrote my comment. Just from memory. I probably shouldn't have quoted it, going off my memory of something I had seen 15-20 minutes earlier, before my phone crashed...

Where the extra digit came in was obviously from my misremembering other fines I had seen, and having incorrectly seen the little A there (for AUD) as an extra number... :-/

It was only after I wrote that, that I was able to reload the page again, get the correct ad, and realise I was wrong.

So... After that very complicated explanation: tl;dr, I accidentally misquoted the figure, by an order of magnitude. Whoops. But you're completely correct, here.

This, here, people, is what happens when you don't sleep properly (unintentionally), and then have way, way too much caffeine...

Oops. :-/

It really is utterly, utterly bizarre that they are targetting this at Australian IP addresses (evidently)...

I have absolutely no idea what it is trying to achieve, given the website it links to is for incoming travellers, except a general climate of... Fear?

Ot they've just gone completely, cacklingly insane. One of the two.

Can anyone with more legal/political nous than I, perhaps, explain what they think the point of this may be..? Because I genuinely don't get it.

It's like... Stereotypical "evil government" shit...

But even living here, I wouldn't have expected them to be quite that... Blatant. Like... What exactly does this ad even achieve, lol..?

If there is any, most likely winning popularity with the Branch Covidians, who say: wow, our wonderful government is trying to make sure that people don't travel and sheeit. And if someone does travel, they will be able to point back to this to prove that: "see, we did everything we could to warn people and make sure they would be aware of the fact that this is NOT allowed!"

Furthermore, this sort of threat increases the presence - and thereby the power - of the government in people's lives.

It may also just be that there is a budget for 'information' and they had to spend it on something.

Of course, this is just speculation.

It's like... Stereotypical "evil government" shit...

First time?

What exactly does this ad even achieve, lol..?

They're not necessarily thinking about what it achieves. That's quite common for governments.

I feel like I should go to the US GP this year, it might be my last ever chance as an unjabbed person to see a live race.

lol

Depends on how lucky you are. If politicians keep putting the 'unboosted' along with the unvaccinated, this is sure to end badly for them. On the other hand, if they leave well enough alone, they may be able to ban the unvaccinated from traveling for a decent amount of time.
