He was both stunning and brave. In his defense this award was from New Zealand’s University of Otago, where he attended.
Funny thing is that if he was a women achieving the same or even better he would not have gotten a "best women" award. Just think how funny that is.
I think the upsetting thing about this is that sports are supposed to be the ultimate meritocracy. In sports, and really any competition, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you came from. The only thing that matters is what you do during the sporting event (game, match, meet, race, lift, etc.) And so success in sports is so easily, so purely defined: you won or you lost.
Shit like this isn’t supposed to happen in sports. You are not supposed to be rewarded for failure. Save the participation trophies for children, and get them the fuck out of the goddamn Olympics. I don’t care that this person is trans. The only reason this person made the news, and was subsequently given this award, is because of who she is. Again, that’s not what sports are about. This person lost at the Olympics in an extremely thorough and embarrassing fashion. If this person had any self-respect they’d turn down the award or give it to someone else.
Individual male sports are meritocracy. Team sports allow room for affirmative action picks and for women sports are not exactly about merit, if it was a meritocracy then they would be competing along side men.
Meritocracy would be the best win no matter any other factors. Fact is that if they did that then very few women would be competing. In order to give women place at the table we created the women sport categories.
That is special treatment, not meritocracy.
Case in point, for esports, chess, racing and math you have mixed gender competitions and women competition, there is no men only competition.
Anything you can do, men can do better, we can do anything better than you - even being you!
I'm 99% sure I can't birth a child out of my penis.
Not with that attitude!
Don't be transphobic.
There's an
xkcdoglaf comic for that.https://www.oglaf.com/stork/2/
I can buy one, serves the same purpose.
You're missing out
Probably, I don't check prices much.
What? This dude failed hard and lost to a bunch woman so he should be named the worst sportsman of all time

he
Dangit, I was trying to avoid using any pronouns at all.
Just use "it".
It's all-inclusive.

No, the fairest meritocracy would be women's sports being thrown in the trash as the parasitic organization they are.
They wouldn't exist without leeching off men's organizations, which is a funny parallel to most of society.

It is a clown award. This person did the most clowning, so they get the award from the circus.
Wasn’t she the one who didn’t even qualify? Talk about taking a piss on women.
He
He did qualify but he did not manage to do any of the targets he put for himself in the Olympics.
The abject failure of this trooms life and the fakeness of bullshit like this and the general support he receives has to be catching up to him.
The rope calls.
Surprising no one
I'm getting to the point where I want to cheer on and help the clown show.
If the frog is to be boiled, I must turn up the heat more quickly so it notices.
