The essential Trumpist argument is that illiberalism on the Left has been successful & should be imitated

Donald Trump is the most liberal president in my lifetime. He basically governed as a 1990s Democrat, for better or worse.

I'm gonna guess and say National Review's real problem with Trump is Trump's American Nationalism. Trump's insistence that America is a nation with boarders and not a walk-in flea market for 3rd World hoards to offer up cheap labor for big corporations. Trump's insistence that America is a nation with citizens whose interest must come first before the interest of other nations & big corporations.

This writer seems like someone who still thinks we are living in a left-right dichotomy and completely fucking ignores that not only is the political compass not just two axises, it's way more fucking nuanced than "left bad, right good". Left is still bad, but some of the shit Trump did was stuff leftists used to support 10-20 years ago, so trying to shove him into a box is fucking idiotic.

Liberalism is and will continue being the enemy. The entire rad lib critique of old school liberalism comes down to it not going far enough to fulfill its values, and thus offer radical liberalism as the solution to it. But the issue with liberalism is its values to begin with.

The NRO hasn't been relevant to the general public's view for more than a decade. Ball cuck should be deported to Canada, they've already got a "conservative" party with their desired set of policies.
