Also, I thought this was rather funny: a couple of years ago, Melbourne demolished its main, literally award-winning, Visitor Information Centre, to build Dan Andrews pet "metro tunnel", which has already destroyed swathes of the city, is totally unnecessary (now, in particular), and is literally just a duplication of the stations that already exist.
The Information Centre was run by the Melbourne City Council. When asked if they would rebuild it, they said "Society is moving away from in-person tourist information. People have the internet. A digital presence is all that we need."
Nonetheless, they still demanded the state government pay them $1 Million in compensation for demolishing this literally award-winning building...
They said that before the pandemic. This is hand in hand with making everything here "cashless", and taking away ATMs...
They do not want you, me, tourists, ANYONE doing anything, or living our lives, in person, anymore. It's the new "digital age", where the internet is the only thing you are allowed. Fuck "human interaction". /s
I'm not kidding when I say that the same crooks, in that article about "not needing visitor information centres", said that "in-person human interaction is outdated". And that's the council which runs this city...
