Dune has some highly above average female characters in it like Lady Jessica but they're not the point of the book.
The overarching story of the saga is the story of the Bene Gesserit. Of course a big part of that story is the introduction of male influence.
But I mean I'm fine with Chani, and Jessica, and Irulan all having big parts. Irulan's story, in particular, is not explicit in the novels IIRC but worthy of expounding upon. Honestly, there's so much to Dune that picking what to cover is the biggest challenge.
