I'm pretty sure the only power as President to get them out of the way would be to send the military and start the war. Although I could certainly see them just decreeing it, because they have big business, the media, and whatever jogger groups they need on their side.
This is definitely a step beyond the "I've got a pen and a phone" days of the Obama presidency. He's just going straight to the vague threats!
I bet he's going to attempt some limp-wristed approach similar to trying to get OSHA to do it for him, or threatening federal funding for states who don't comply. Talk tough, but try to get their way via cloak and dagger and backroom shenanigans because it's all they know. Because no one would ever actually call their bluff. That never happens!
The rub is, what happens when people do start calling the bluff on federal authority, and it feels like that day is coming quickly.
They are very smart about how they go about things in a sneaky way to make it stick. None of just making a decree directly. They even say they don't have the power to do that. It reminds me of pressure sales tactics, agree on one thing while getting exactly what they want in another way.
Big business won't fight this at all unless tons of people just quit. I'm curious to see how my company approaches it. I know of quite a few of the people who do the real work that aren't vaccinated and that's in a small region. I also don't trust enough to do that. I'm thinking about it once I see how it plays out. I've got some side businesses already anyway.
Thing is, yes, but the problem with being sneaky and too clever for your own good is that the 'sneaky' tactic gets the short term win but comes at a price.
The biggest price to be paid is legitimacy. They're playing with authority and gravitas they absolutely have not earned. To have the president come out and spew this drivel, but then to have the Department of Labor be the hitman?
The presidency looks so stupidly weak right now. He can't even do his own business that he declares out in the open! Where everyone can see! This is a huge put up or shut up moment. If he makes these threats, and then just.. dithers, or blusters, or shouts and expects the media to fight this battle for him? What does that say about the office he occupies? That's supposed to be the chair for the most powerful man in the world?
It won't just be people and governors in the red states thinking about whether to call his bluff or not. The world is watching, too.
Hopefully your company has some moral fiber. The silver lining is the impossibility of enforcement if enough businesses and individuals flip the feds the bird, but, yes, there probably will be a lot of companies who let people go and then wonder how all the work is going to get done. Whatever happens, trust your gut and be ready to change things up with work if you have to. Best of luck either way.

You assume anyone will bother to fight it.
Wherever and whenever Trump took action there were violent leftist mobs burning shit down.
When the left gets power and throws away the people's liberties, their wealth, their safety, what does the right do?
Bitch about it on Facebook.
We don't love freedom enough and simply deserve everything that comes after.
The old fashioned way.
Talk to you neighbors, build rapport, create a local movement against the bullshit and build it up from there.
You don't need anything but to get up and do it.
Tech is a crutch and we don't need it, unlike our enemies.
When the right tries to protest the fbi infiltrates, puts them on a terror list, tortures, and they get ridiculed from their own side

Stop federal funding states should lead to states instructing citizens to stop paying federal taxes and it's on like kong.
