Tales of Arise being mentioned is apt, because that game looks incredibly boring.

While there was hype about it being released "uncensored", the game is intentionally developed so tame that I can't imagine what, exactly, there was to censor in the 1st place.

I've been playing through the series, almost through with Yakuza 3. Being that at least to this point the Chinese mafia has been heavily involved in the story, maybe a Chinese entry or somewhere else in Asia. I can't see it working outside of that though. I don't want Yakuza: Mayan Ruins. Well, I don't think I do.

I'm no expert on Tales games, I've only played about one and a half of the series so far. If I had to judge based on my limited experience, they all tend to be a bit generic gameplay wise and not really push the envelope on anything, but be held up by characters, story, music, things like that. Music is a big one for me, I love games that still stick to blaring music in the background over the what's become more common quiet generally atmospheric music and nature sounds.

I have yet to actually finish a Tales game, but the ones I've played all have a unique spin on gameplay and have liked.

But what I remember from the Arise demo didn't look very interesting, and the characters are fairly unappealing to me as well...not much going for it.

No thanks to the Globalization Agenda all around.

No thanks to the Globalization Agenda all around.

Yeah if it ends up being one of those "try to seek broader appeal" moves then it will just ruin the games. I wouldn't be shocked if that's the case with Tales of Arise. I'll eventually give it a shot I'm sure, but it won't be anytime soon as I have enough Tales games to play as it is. If they leave their niche and become yet another Sony-style extremely generic third person game with woke themes then well that's another series dead.
