Yeah if it ends up being one of those "try to seek broader appeal" moves then it will just ruin the games. I wouldn't be shocked if that's the case with Tales of Arise. I'll eventually give it a shot I'm sure, but it won't be anytime soon as I have enough Tales games to play as it is. If they leave their niche and become yet another Sony-style extremely generic third person game with woke themes then well that's another series dead.
I have yet to actually finish a Tales game, but the ones I've played all have a unique spin on gameplay and have liked.
But what I remember from the Arise demo didn't look very interesting, and the characters are fairly unappealing to me as well...not much going for it.
