It's more a "rules for thee, not for me" situation. The boss is the author of Why You Should Be a Socialist. Apparently, that was addressed to everyone except his employees.
I think this is more that the boss was using "the narrative" to claim he was socialist and get fill the level below him with non-threatening women and non-threatening "non binary" men.
