Hiring in Asheville, NC is impossible w/ the entitled generation. Turning down $16/hr to stand holding a sign while construction crews do actual work because it starts before 11am, no signing bonus, living allowance or free vehicle... (twitter.com)

I think this might have to do with the location. No one that I know gives a sign on bonus. For anything. Ever.

Also in my area, tons of people doing Uber, Uber Eats, Door Dash, blah blah blah.

Actually, one of the worst things is that if you work hard, and work right, those can pay more than a $16 /hr job.

It absolutely has to do with the location. In my neck of the woods, a lot of people are offering sign-ons, but you need to work for a certain amount of time before you get the bonus so that people cant game it. Additionally, $16/hr would be considering very good money (its about $3/hr more than I make working a reasonably skilled job). And $27/hr would be considered EXTREMELY good money. We are talking "very few jobs above you" level money. You need to be in a highly skilled job to even get close to that kind of money (ie: the welders at a local manufacturing plant make between $18/hr-$24/hr, but also only work 32 hr. per week)
