It's funny how all the supposedly mild and meek democracies like Australia, UK and Canada lead the way toward totalitarianism. Looks like Plato was right.

Democracy always ends up being "The people in power are the ones who can most effectively manipulate the common voter." Spreading lies and hiding the truth make it far easier to gain control in a system like that.

I'm glad you didn't include NZ, because that was democratically elected authoritarianism, they actually want more of it. There's only sheep in NZ.

You also have to look at how that democracy is set up. First-Past-the-Post guarantees large parties will remain in power, and grow more and more corrupt. Nobody wants to "waste their vote" so established parties have nothing to fear from smaller or less corrupt "competition." They are also able to force behavior among their candidates being kicked out of the party is a death blow.
