Both houses of Florida's legislature have passed their social media bill. But with a very specific exception.
"doesn't apply to a company that owns and operates a theme park or entertainment complex"
Don't mess with the mouse.
And what's hilarious is how it's so just goddamn brazen. LIke, wtf are you even doing mentioning theme parks in a bill about online speech?
I agree that it is bullshit to mention theme parks in a bill about online speech HOWEVER. I understand why they did that, because so long as Disney doesn't feel like their bottom line is in danger and Disney desperately wants to get their parks back up and running again after they have been a multi-billion dollar drain on them for the last year and a half, if the Disney executives felt that this new bill could stop them from reopening then they would have a slew of lawyers doing everything they can to stop this bill. And Disney lawyers have a history of getting what they want.
So giving an exemption at this time is to me a tactic to make sure that particular foe stays out of the fight when this bill is already going to get Silicon Valley's panties in a wad and it doesn't benefit drag Disney into the mix at this time.
One of the co-sponsors said that it’s to make sure Disney Plus isn’t effected, which makes no sense to me. Surely a streaming service is not a social media site, and if the law is written so broadly that it would apply, it needs to be rewritten.
It should have no bearing on physical theme parks, either.
Never underestimate the power of a bored lawyer.
The disney scum has had several bills pass that made no fucking sense, even from a business stand point because the cunts that run it are idiots.
So Facebook buys an "entertainment complex" somewhere in Florida and bypasses this bill entirely?
They should just name Disney explicitly. So tired of dishonest legislation.
Absolutely cucked.
Now, if this is a way to splat in their face and tell these American companies, turned into Chinese handymen that, boy you give America too much for granted. As you can influence politics, politics can influence your baseline. hence see what the fuck you wanna do from now on. that would be a thing...
But who the hell am I talking about here? The rat probably lobbied his ass out of this. still even if is a cucked bill is a step into the right decision.
It makes sense, orlando is pretty much theme parks. The biggest convention in Florida is dedicated to theme parks. Even apartment complexes have amusement parks.
That's a whole industry not to be messed with in Florida.
I know everyone thinks Desantis should run in 2024 but he is a much more effective state governor and I think he should stay there. When Trump was prez, everyone was fighting him at all times, even his own party and own cabinet members. The same thing would happen to Desantis if he became prez.
He is better governing from the middle with more power than from the top but in chains. And that is what this country needs right now, a bottom up change, not from the top down. Because change from the top is easily changed back, as we all saw with Trump. Trump became the lefts #1 target and was dispatched. Decentralized change is the best way to make permanent change.
So, to receive protection under this bill, all you have to do is move to Florida and run for Senate every single term. Worthless garbage.
Disney isn't capable of deplatforming anyone, they don't own a social media company.
