I decided to practice what I preach and set up a new federated, censorship-resistant online community for members of KiA as well as any general enthusiasts of gaming and nerd culture. Feel free to sign up and spread the word.

For someone who wanted to make a community like this, you've never interacted with this community.
I say it's a trap.
Is it gay?
Well for starters it's a microblog instead of a link aggregator so you'll have to decide for yourself.
I've lurked around KIA and KIA2 for years. I've never made an account because I don't trust reddit, and I never bothered with the .win communities because I felt like neither was really active or took full advantage of their freedoms.
Believe what you want. All I really wish is for more people to stop falling for centralized grifter shitholes thinking the solution to the problem is just another Reddit or another Twitter or another Youtube.
A noble sentiment but the question that comes to my mind is: What makes you and your domain any different in that regard?
For all anyone knows you'll just take your domain at the first sign of disagreement and run (like the dude who owned the old t_d domain for example) or forget to renew it in a year when you lose interest.
It's not even just about the growth of one website, but the growth of a shared community of independent servers interacting with each other as a whole. It's a system designed so that even if my instance fails, the content will be available on other servers of other people with similar or even different ideals.
I know you hear "multiple servers" and you still think of a centralized system like Reddit, but no one "owns" this system I'm talking about. It's all small independent servers that use a shared protocol to share messages with one another and store them.
Fediverse?
To me this site screams honeypot.
No thanks.
"Fediverse" as in federated web servers operating under a shared protocol for communicating with one another.
Federated as in "multiple groups formed into a unit" instead of one group that controls everything.
I PROMISE you not everything with "fed" in it is an FBI honeypot.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fediverse
So I should just take your promise as evidence?
No thanks.
Fediverse is an open source project that's the backbone of Mastodon and Gab is a fork of Mastodon.
Anyone can make their own site. Whether the site glows or not is up to the site admin.
Fediverse is totally run by leftists, but so is Linux and Windows.
.win uses Cloudflare and javascript, so it's obviously glowing.
Pick your poison. It's all poison.
Notanks.
Decentralisation sounds good. I read the FAQ on your page, and it might be worth labouring some of the points it made a bit more here. I didn't pick up on those concepts on first reading this post.
Eg, people here are are worrying about doxxing, even though it looks like the big selling point is that you don't have to sign up to your site to use it.
(Counterintuitive, when the first thing your site shows is a sign up form.)
You might need to be quite patient and willing to repeat yourself a lot before seeing any movement. Especially if people are going to do things like see the letters "fed" and go "Hey you're the Feds". I mean, in that exact case you might just decide you don't want clientele like that anyway, but there is a middle ground.
I definitely like the idea of a more long term solution than just copying Reddit with the devil you know in charge this time.
I haven't read or thought about how privacy, censorship, moderation, etc play out under the new system.
Luminescence rising...
You don't have to use a legitimate email. It's just helpful if you lose your account and need some point of contact.
Imagine not using cockmail to sign up for things at this stage of the game.
I didn't mention emails. I think you're the glowie.
Hey man, I appreciate what you've done here. But I can also understand why people are skeptical of it. People don't want to be doxxed by people like CNN, and we need to be able to know you.
If you have a Reddit account, can you please send a message to the r/KiA2 modmail so we can talk to you a little in private?
Sorry, never made a Reddit account and never will.
Just something to know though: You can sign up with a completely fake email if you want to, but it will mean you won't be able to be contacted if you do so.
So it's just going to be full of kiddie porn and almost nothing else. Like everywhere else that wants to be free of censorship, it'll be ruined by the coomerfags. Have fun with that.
Hey, we weren't ruined by coomerfags.
I appreciate the commitment to federated tech, but maybe you should shift focus towards something more personal instead of offering to be a new KIA hangout.
For example you could write articles about gamergate topics and occasionally link to them from here. If your content is good enough you'll build your own community in alignment with this one.
It's up to you of course. I wish you luck. Always good to have backups at least.
