So you're saying you think the Maine wasn't blown up intentionally by our own government to give us a perfect excuse for an easy win war with Spain that would end up giving us control of most of the Caribbean? Just a happy accident, and if it hadn't blown up on that fateful day, we would have been stuck waiting for another boat explosion? Nobody knows why the Maine blew up. Not for sure. There wasn't much left of her to do an analysis, so anything either of us say on that would be pure speculation. But what I will say is that it was a mighty fine coincidence. Fun fact: Most US wars have started over an attack on one of our (or allies) ships. Everything from the sinking of the Lusitania to the Tonkin Gulf incident. If you think our government wouldn't flinch at killing innocent civilians and military personnel to further their various agendas, I invite you to wake the fuck up. Some of these shootings might have been Bob Ross style happy accidents, but I wouldn't put it past the Feds to stoke up a few crazies as well. The lives of ordinary Americans mean less than nothing to the powerful elite, who manipulate us at every possible step.
The New York Times, the Democratic Party, and fucking Pulitzer himself were happy to use any excuse to invade Cuba and get money from it. Not to mention American Imperialism was seen as the next step for the Progressive advance.
The USS Maine was clearly a fucking accident. In fact, that's one of the reasons the government tried to blame the explosion of the Maine initially on black people. That's not a pre-meditated event. It was an accident because ammunition wasn't being stowed and moved properly.
We know for damn sure that the Spanish and the Cubans didn't fucking do it, because they didn't even know that they were at War when we showed up.
It was an accident, and the press and government knew they could exploit it immediately, which they did. This is the common pattern. A real incident, that is murky enough not to be able to immediately disprove your narrative, and can then be exploited by the media to create casus belli. It's the same pattern over centuries.
No, not most. Basically just 3:
The lesson here is that if the government wants a war, it uses the media not a false flag attack. It's way easier to control the media anyway, and works better to rile people up.
You don't understand that this is a contradiction. You're right, the elites don't care about you. That's why they don't need to manipulate your every possible action. If you know, it doesn't matter. If you in particular aren't manipulated, it won't effect anything.
The government manipulates people in broad swathes. That's what the corporate media establishment is for.
Put it like this: we know that the Left is pushing police shootings. None of the police officers or criminal suspects are being planted. These shootings are all genuine, that's why we can find so much information about why most of them are legitimate. But no one one the Left knows that because the establishment media didn't tell them.
You don't need to make a shooting when your lies are more effective, more efficient, cheaper, and can't implicate you. Just lie. It's the easiest thing in the world. You just lie. You don't need to frame Ted Cruz in an elaborately timed conspiracy to accuse him of launching a terrorist attack from Twitter. You just lie on TikTok. It costs you nothing and it works better.
If you want a war with Syria, you just have CBS use some footage of a machine gun range and lie. You don't manufacture a fake attack with US Special Forces.
If you want to shore up the Asian vote in Democratic cities, you don't use a federal agent to attack random old Japanese people. You wait for someone old Japanese person to get attacked and you blame white supremacy. When someone points out that it was a black person that attacked him you just keep lying and tell others not to listen.
If you want to promote gun control, you don't manufacture mass shootings, you wait for mass shootings and you blame guns.
Quick point of order: Lusitania was a British-owned Royal Mail Steamer (RMS), not a United States Naval Ship (USS). But your main point is still true. In fact, to further bolster your, the Zimmerman Telegram was sent a full year before it was leaked to the public, and they knew that the Mexicans response to the Germans had been "ARE YOU FUCKING NUTS?! No, absolutely not! And do not attempt to contact us again!"
But they waited until the public was at a point where they would be sufficiently angry (which ended up being "German restarted unrestricted submarine warfare, and had sunk a few US merchant ships"), and then they dropped it.
Another point to note - the Zimmerman Telegram also heavily involved British intelligence, who were the ones to get the intercept. Part of the reason for the delay was the elaborate parallel construction necessary to be able to provide the Zimmerman telegram without telling the US that the British were tapping everything sent across the Atlantic.
You're right. My mistake. RMS.
The Lusitania always bothered me. Wilson went to war, using the Lusitania as an excuse... 2 years after it sunk. It's such a clearly half-assed propaganda effort. And they were actually putting people in jail for opposing the war. With SCOTUS affirmation.
Our modern day interpretation of Free Speech comes about from those early anti-Speech laws. The 2nd amendment used to not protect people from what we now all demand that it does.
It is definitely kind of weird. At the time it sank, there was absolutely genuine anger. You had people howling for blood, you had people attacking Germans in America in retaliation for it, you had freaking Teddy Roosevelt saying he was going to get the Rough Riders back together to go kick Germanys ass (and initial reports were that he would have a million man army to do it with), and all of that. Then Wilson decides to ignore it, calm everyone down, and run for reelection on an isolationist platform. Ironically, using Lusitania as an example of "This is why we should be isolationist."
Then, on the orders of the Kaiser, Germany starts doing unrestricted subs again, they sank a few US Merchant ships before the call really got out to watch their backs, and British Intelligence leaks the Zimmerman Telegram (as I said, a year late). Then you have Wilson suddenly getting as worked up as Teddy did, and even going "You know what?! We should have smashed them the first time!"
Just in case people thought voters having the memory of a goldfish is a recent issue.
