It seems like everyone here in Canada is oblivious to Trudeau’s scandals and corruption, that’s probably why he was re elected. People here in Canada keep making fun of America because they have a laughing stock of a leader, yet don’t know the crap Trudeau did. For crying out loud he wore blackface, imagine if Trump did that, he would’ve been condemned (rightfully so). Canadians paid more attention to the US election than ours in 2019. The average Canadian could probably name several US senators but can’t even name the leader of the Conservatives...

It makes sense to follow USAer politics, as every leader since Chrétien has basically folded faster than Superman on laundry day towards any US demands. But to follow it to the exclusion of Canadian politics is foolish.
Still, it isn't a "lack of paying attention" issue. I have brought up to lefties Trudeau's actions. Not just his blackface, but his hostile actions against women for standing against his desires, his strongarm bullying tactics, his lack of following COVID lockdown laws, his blatant conflict-of-interest deals... It's like talking to a brick wall. For all I know, maybe they were fully informed thirty times already, but it goes in one ear, out the other. "...But did you know Scheer took his family on a government airplane!?!?!?!?!!" is usually the most I'd get in response, and even then, that level of awareness is rare, usually it's just abject denial of reality. Yeah, some guy taking his kids with him on a plane that had spare open capacity is definitely on par with making business deals with companies your family owns or operates, bullying women, blackface, and hypocrisy. Truly, a wonderous rebuttal.
EDIT: OmegaCanada is a dotWin site, might be of interest to you.
"Since Chretien"? I guess you weren't around for Mulroney.
It's weird, a country who fought two bloody wars to not have to give a shit what foreigners think is now super jealous of the mythical utopia of the same continent.
Fuckin yuppies.
Not a Canadian, but I have friends in a few countries who complain insistently about the Americazation of politics and how it's dominating their news to the point, like you say, it's drowning out and minimizing news about their own countries.
Only in the clown-world that is our reality.
I'm originally from Windsor, which wasn't allowed to have cable television until I was 16, so I grew up watching Detroit television over the antenna. American television is my default, and I never watched much beyond Air Farce on the CBC. They can take their Beachcombers and shove it up Hawkeye's ass.
That being said, I hated the original Trudeau (as a kid, for his changing the measurement system for no good reason - we had already been taught Imperial, and I still DESPISE metric with every fibre of my being). I also hated Mulroney, and pretty much every PM we've had in my lifetime, excerpt for Paul Martin, Jr, who didn't get much of a chance to start sucking. They're all a pack of traitorous garbage. And Justin is looking like Fidel Castro more and more every day. Physically. He looks nothing like Pierre. I don't even know why I vote, but I have to hold my nose to do it.
As far as American politics goes, it gets into everything, everywhere. It's theatre. But with the bizarre reaction to Trump, well ... hell, they didn't even flip their lids quite that hard over Ronnie Rayguns and his Armageddon comment and his Star Wars.
Americans have this cultural obsession with putting foreign countries on pedestals, which most foreigners are aware of and use to act as moral superiors. America sucks and probably will destroy Western Civilization with its SJW strong-arming, but I can't stand how arrogant Canadians and Europeans are while pretending that their countries aren't on fire as well.
It’s those “haha America is the real shithole” takes from the Canadians that are so drawn in so as to be talking about a senate election or something that really grind my gears
Canadians with that attitude are so damn childishly stupid, and I’d say it’s the majority of them. There’s absolutely no acknowledgment of the fact that almost everything that makes Canada livable is the result of its proximity to the states, and the fact that 99% of the things they sneer at America for are the result of having a much much larger and more “diverse” population.
Yes.
Not really because I pay attention to US politics.
if you mean the media... haven't watched Canadian news media in years. Hell, I find out more about Canada from Americans than Canadian media. (No lie, an American friend just sent me some links that go back to Rebel News.)
I am a Canadian living the USA. I always hated the many self-righteous Canadians who seem to have a high degree of moral superiority.
I couldn't wait to leave the People's Soviet Socialist Republic of Canada.
Fact: Nobody cares about Canada.
Seems like 50%+ Canadians here.
