, its done more harm to society than anything else, its literally exists as a microphone for subverters, commies , mentally ill (that dont represent the normal majority) and has too much power. And my biggest frustration is trump has done nothing about it even he should see the problems

One of the largest things that twitter has revealed is that decentralized groups of individuals who can share their information to any other individual is far faster at spreading information than every individual getting their information from a centralized source like news media. This is why social media like facebook, twitter, and youtube, have attempted to become definitive news sources.

If spreading this information is good or not is another point entirely. But do not think that in its present state that it is entirely negative. After all, GamerGate was only possible because of twitter.

It's far better than it was before the internet for example. When the only way to get worldwide news was the TV and newspaper.

The echo chamber that social media conglomerates facilitate has ruined discourse, reducing everything to 280-character dunks in Twitter’s case. I also agree with too much power, but also how imbalanced the input vs output of power is. Pre-twitter, cancelling someone required you to either buy tv and radio space calling them out, if you managed to bypass broadcasting conduct and standards or do serious legwork to find out where their live and calling their family, friends and employees.

Post-twitter, just make a few angry tweets with a hashtag (bonus points if you attach the key trigger words that are trendy with the left at the moment) and it’s bound to snowball as “youtubers”, independent “journalists”and “streamers” start virtue signalling to their massive fanbases for their 3 minute feel good dopamine hit. So instead of you and a few dozen at most trying to ruin someone’s life, it is now millions turning over every stone in the person’s life. The amount of work required is the same, but now the load is spread across exponentially more people. It was also not a global effort either. And this shit is going to haunt you forever. You can’t flee to another part of the world, change your name and start a new life, unless you go somewhere super remote and/ or somewhere in the 3rd-world.

Let me just remind anyone who gives a shit to thoroughly nuke your social media accounts and delete them.

It's all about vanity. Does the average user give a shit that anyone is reading the tweet, or is it more about tweeting to gather followers? The whole thing acts as a microphone where you yap about you. Companies use it because they're obligated to signal that they're involved and in touch, and as we saw early this week with the walmart thing, hire the same vane types who would rant rather than listen to tweet on their behalf. It's a void to yowl into endlessly and exists to feed the part of you that tells you that you're special and that people care, on that same level of sincerity you feel when the on-hold phone recording tells you that your call is very important.

What do you mean "Trump has done nothing." He's been pushing like crazy to remove 230, which is the law protecting them. Remove(/replace) that and you could sue twitter into oblivion.

Remember the Arab Spring? That wasn't a good thing. Twitter destroys countries. They tested it on the middle east and it's now being deployed in the west.

That was the CIA though. And remember when they took out Lybia it led to the rapefugee crisis that is flooding Europe, and to mass slavery in North Africa.
