Amazon is the only thing preventing the dying star that is Seattle from collapsing in on itself like a black hole, so they get to do whatever they want.
I'll bet if Bezos wanted to hunt homeless people in the street as in The Most Dangerous Game, neither the city or police department would stop him as long as he promised not to move Amazon out of the city.

Any chance he will? Sounds like a reason to renew Prime Video.
It baffles me how many people buy from Amazon here in Germany. It's just bad: high prices, horrible search, mediocre shipping times, retarded logistics and that's before you get into ethics arguments.
I only buy from them when it looks like they're losing money
Last time I bought from them they had a promo that at best (for them) meant they broke even. However since they also ship every other item separately they certainly lost money due to multiple shipping fees on an order with free shipping.
My guess it's largely laziness. People love monopolies because they are convenient and maybe herd mentality.
I generally find stores in price comparison websites (just make sure you don't visit the store directly from Google's shopping tab which might give them a commission) or ebay.
Buying the other way (US to Europe) is rarely worth it unfortunately. With 19% import tax and the ridiculous international shipping charges in the US it only really makes sense for very small items.
I'm going to start sending lists of things to buy for me so you can find me the best deal. I'm also sending a list of companies to boycott for me. You will be paid in exposure; I here that is what all the kids work for now.
Prime is a fucking scam, they run you through several obfuscatory pages to try and prevent you from cancelling it, or trick you into thinking you cancelled it when you didn't.
Worse, even if you did cancel it, they will soon offer you a free month of Prime the next time you buy something, just to hook you back on the subscription in hopes that you'll forget to cancel it again.
It embarasses me to say it, but they've pretty much stolen $100 from me over the years by doing this shit.
It took me a while to notice that most of their inventory is shitty Chinese knockoffs. They let these IP-violators step all over small American inventors and undercut them out of business.
The future is going to be like that one town thats all in one building, except it will be an Amazon Warehouse. The question now is, will Amazon buy Disney or will Disney buy Amazon? I figure once that happens we will have the real life "Buy and Large" from Wall-e.

I'll grant you, it's a far more effective solution to dealing with the homeless problem than anything the Seattle City Council has cooked up.
I wasn't aware their city council was in the business of solving problems
Premise: "Someone" releases intellectually-modified rats into the city as an experiment to see which species wins out, the rats or the druggies.
I haven't bought anything from Amazon since the beginning of the pandemic, and then it was just hair clippers and a new mouse.

I only buy from them as a last resort.

You can actually cancel before your trial ends and not lose any of your free time.
I didn't have a problem at all cancelling- saved some money and watched all of Tick & High Castle season 1.

Already did a couple of month ago.

If that's to be the future, maybe we should band together and form our own quasi-autonomous "company towns".
I hope you all went to college, now's the time to get that cushy job at Amazon.
Rules for thee but not for me!
This is so 'south park' .
At one point I wanted to sell my voodoo5 through amazon. But I never got to it. That is the only thing I ever did with them.
