Is this the difference between film/digital?

Somewhat. To help you understand the differences, consider this film on the much more extreme usecase of rocket photography.

Film can have a much wider dynamic range than sensors.

They have so much money

Only in the sense that a person with debt has negative money. Your average high schooler working at McDonalds has more money than a person with debt.

If you've followed any of the Monsanto cross pollination lawsuits, one of the main points raised is that the defendants are poor as shit.

Basically, Amish fields were being cross pollinated by glyphosate resistant seeds from nearby fields, Monsanto sued some Amish farmers and lost. Basically "it's not our fault your product is capable of spreading in the wild".

Computers weren't the mistake, user interfaces were the mistake.

We could have been a technocratic priesthood for a millennia but nooooo.

At some point in the very distant past I think I created one when it was brand new. But that style of subscriber style messaging has never appealed to me.

It's always seemed like a race to the bottom popularity contest.

Mmmmmm no.

Unlike a change in participation bias, that behavior WOULD actually be detectable in the polling process.

Your reply tells me that you don't understand the math very well. So I'll be blocking you.

It all comes down to one fundamental question.

When a moderate democrat becomes a republican... does their tendency to respond to polling change as well? This is a very important question. If people who flip sides also change their response behavior, then EVERY D->R flip is flying stealth. The polls cannot see them.

You have to understand that partisan non-participation bias is such a huge problem that the polls are basically garbage. They might as well be just posting last year's election results and that would be more statistically honest than what they're pitching as polls now.

Because they're using the last election to try to compensate for partisan non-participation bias. This natural result of this is that the polling will tend to resemble the last election.

I was prepared to write off their selection of Harris as a necessary measure to avoid all out chaos at the convention if they were to have an actual abbreviated selection process. That they grabbed the first most plausible person available (obviously, the VP) and that was that.

But the choice of Walz reeks of housecleaning. They're aware the election is a throwaway, and they're using it to throw the undesirables in the party under the bus when they inevitably lose.

I remember our local grocery store had an awesome video rental section.

Same, and I was a cashier there cuz the grocery store was like the only place that would hire high schoolers. The movie wall was the first thing straight in front of the door.

Four weeks

That sounds to me like a middle management answer that has to do with a ticket-implement-build-test-certify pipeline rather than the actual time to do the work.

I say that fully guilty of giving that sort of estimate to managers before.

Given how badly their organization as fucked up already, I doubt any engineer wants to skip a single step.

This situation shouldn't be a situation. NASA is waffling on the definition of what it means to be a test pilot. If they decide to rewrite Crew-9 as a retrieval mission for B-CTF, then Boeing had better be fukkin dropped.

In flight software systems its normal to completely remove modules of the program for flight modes your mission profile is not supposed to execute.

This is why, for example, a dragon cargo capsule once survived a launch vehicle failure but had no programming to use its parachutes in a launch failure condition. It could only use them in a return from orbit. The software module had been developed for crewed flights, but for cargo they hadn't planned for a survivable launch abort because cargo dragon has no abort superdraco engines. Afterwards, they decided to make provisions for a cargo launch abort in the off chance a cargo dragon would survive a rocket breakup despite having no escape thrusters.

That's thinking too narrow. Any given forest fire will burn itself out. To make a bigger fire you need more lightning to strike.

Another knifing incident will go bigger.

Another after that will go bigger still. Etc.

The only way for the government to prevent that from happening is total press and social media control so that knifing attacks don't reach national attention.

Without that, the system is entering an amplification feedback loop where each successive attack will provoke larger and larger retaliation.

Maybe, but in the end he didn't give them anything. He gave his database to the internet as a whole, set the self destruct and noped out.

And I can respect that.

"Computer, destruct sequence one..."

Much respect to NC.

DNT is good if you're starting with someone who is completely cold to the idea. The first four episodes do a better job of setting up Yang and Reinhard's character motivations.

The mandatory recommendation for all KIA2 readers is Legend of the Galactic Heroes. It's quite possibly the most MAGA anime ever made. Although it's a convoluted mess to watch because of all the different versions of it out there. The normal recommendation is to watch the 110 episode series first, which you'll have to pirate. If you make it through that (despite the terrible animation), you'll be invested enough to learn about all the other material out there.

Eliminate all prisons.

The entire criminal code is rewritten to have four levels of punishment:

  • Fines
  • Community Service
  • Flogging
  • Execution

Appellate relief is restricted to execution trials only, and state jurisdiction cases cannot be appealed into federal jurisdiction.

For all lesser crimes, in place of appellate relief, the convicted can sue for tort relief after the fact if they so choose.
