When published their first book when young, they made a very bad contract that gave the copyright ownership of their work to the company, despite Dragonlance being de facto theirs.
when the company was later bought. the IP ownership was also bought
currently, wizard of the coast own Dragonlance IP, and their parent company is Hasbro.
M & T had limitations but were free still to write books and rolled in money so they never care seriously about tacking the IP backs in their hand. despite having ground to do so. (as it would be a titanic legal battle)
in short, they write, pay, and publish everything by themselves
but the company own IP and the rights to reviews and ask for changes. they need to give permission every time if M & T want to write a book. otherwise, M & T could get sued.
M & T want to write their final books, the sum of their carriers
they ask the company permission to write books. the company accept. this happen around 2017
M & T make a deal with a publisher. that will take care of printing and shit. not sure of the details but the publisher here pays M & T in exchange they get money when the books sell. (you read it down why this is important)
