"During his 30 years at C-SPAN, Steve consistently demonstrated his fairness and professionalism as a journalist. He has built a reservoir of goodwill among those he has interviewed, fellow journalists, our viewers and with us. Starting immediately, we have placed Steve on administrative leave. After some distance from this episode, we believe in his ability to continue to contribute to C-SPAN."
During his 30 years at C-SPAN, Steve undoubtedly lied about many other things but never got caught.
Fixed that for them.
If C-SPAN had any sense of journalistic integrity they would fire this turd and look into whether or not any of his past work needs to be pulled immediately due to the possibility that he made it up.
He could have kept his career if he didn't, but I'm guessing someone actually forced Twitter to provide them with login information and he was backed into a corner.
For everyone saying "oh this information is too late" look at the absolute fucking damage being done. That is generally the best time to send out a bomb, is when it will matter.
This is what is called a 'cascading' effect publicly, as little things begin to happen people will demand more and more blood.
The only problem is the media is likely going to staunchly defend them, but that was going to happen no matter what.
He admitted it because Trump told the FBI to investigate it -- and they announced they would.
It'd be far more damaging for him -- plus a much higher risk of other stuff exposed -- than it would be to simply own up to the truth.
Trump needs to do more of this "take virtue signalers at their word and have the Feds investigate them" thing.
"Oh you don't think you pay enough taxes? OK I'll send an IRS auditor right over to look at your finances for the past decade and determine how much in back taxes you owe."
"Oh your hiring practices are rooted in white supremacy? OK I'll send someone from the Department of Labor over to depose your executive staff and audit your HR procedures."
"Oh you don't think you rent enough apartment units to 'people of color'? OK I'll send someone from Housing and Urban Development over to audit your rental applications and leasing procedures, and depose your property managers to determine the extent to which Equal Opportunity in Housing regulations were violated."
I get frustrated sometimes about the whole "15 FBI Special Agents to investigate a noose" thing, but they completely nipped that story in the bud.
As someone said on Twitter, one thing we have to make sure older, pre-Web people (especially politicians) understand is that "I got hacked" is the modern equivalent of "The dog ate my homework."
It's all for show mon.
Fixed that for them.

FYI, he was supposed to moderate the 2nd Presidential Debate.
Why would he ADMIT that?
