I can live with the series going away from turned based, but some people noted that the short combat scenes looked a lot like DMC.
Probably more of what the trailer didn't show. Though Square-Enix has been moving away from other members of the cast being controllable. Such as XIII and XV not having it at launch. This might not be the case, but the trailer didn't aid in those concerns.
Maybe he won't be, since this trailer shows just a couple minutes of the guy at most. However, people aren't looking forward to yet another cold/emo main character.
This is more considering the crowd we're in, but some did compare to the crystal line they showed in the trailer to remind them of The Last Jedi. I do consider it a little worrisome considering this recent trend of dissing the history of your own franchise. Though seeing as they're still using Chocobos and Shiva, it probably won't happen.
It's mostly just looking at the red flags that were shown in the trailer. Who knows, the game itself could be amazing. I would hope so, since I do enjoy the series. I was even excited for XIII and hopeful for XV, but for myself personally I'd keep expectations in check for this one until it's released.
That's because they have the combat director from DMCV working on the game
I love the original final fantasy games to death... But if we get DMC Final Fantasy, I can't complain.
My own personal gripes that may or may not change as we get closer to release:
The Setting: The setting this game is in so far does absolutely nothing for me. It looks like a dime store Ivalice, and considering Ivalice is already one of the most boring fantasy settings around, this is not a good thing.
Crystals: I am so fucking tired of FF stories revolving around crystals. Its like that is the only idea they even have anymore.
As for the action gameplay...eh. I like turn based stuff too, but I think its time for its fans to just accept that its never coming back. The masses have spoken on this one.
I didn't play 2 or 3, but crystals have been Final Fantasy's go-to since at least 4. I seem to recall there being crystals in the FF movie as well.
Thank you. Personally, my greatest complaint was it appeared to be another uninspiring Final Fantasy title. I know that isn't a very flushed out notion, but the story elements were okay, the characters felt bla and emo, and the combat looked okay.
Nothing really to love, nothing really to hate.
Have more faith, Yoshida is involved. It looks more serious, and more like an Ivalice type setting, and given it probably won't be out for a few years this has to be some early gameplay we saw. We'll likely see other characters later, but your points on the multiple party member thing is legit - they've been shying away from that in various forms for a bit, but they really seem to have gotten a good method of controlling multiple characters at once in FF7R - though they left the AI of the non-controlled characters dumbed down I think, for reasons.
I'm personally pretty hyped. Excited for the darker tone it seems to be setting and they've got Yoshi-P in charge.
The crystal line to me seemed more like they're leaning more into a "rebel against the crystals" theme like 12 and the scrapped DLC for 15 in this one. But we'll have to see what happens when more info comes out down the line.
