I wouldn't characterize what he did as "downplaying". What the media and his political opponents did when he instituted the travel ban, that was downplaying.
And telling people to go to chinatown and celebrate the chinese new year in a jam-ass packed parade.
And tying everything up with a bullshit impeachment.
Your impeachments seem to have no real teeth, though. I guess Nixon could have said "fuck you all" and kept his job ... because of him, I'd always assumed impeachment was like a vote of non-confidence.
Or to stop some "racism" against the Chinese.
Only once it was sufficiently separated from the Chinese enough to blame on generic "people" did they stop.
It's depressing is what it is. Everyone's such a goddamn coward and it's disgusting.
It's sad. We have so much evidence now that the early projections were overblown. Deaths are falling, but people are just as panicked as ever. Kids are afraid to go to school etc.
