Solution: take the money you would have spent paying property tax, and use it to move out of Minneapolis. Let the next owner who buys the property at a foreclosure auction deal with the delinquent tax bill.

It's why you can buy a house in Detroit for $1: because with it comes the $20,000 tax bill.

Edit: in my state the boilerplate real estate contract everyone uses says "ten dollars and other good and valuable consideration". Which means you can't sell a house for less than $10 and use that standard verbiage. I wonder if it ever happens that someone sells a property for under $10, and what they do if that happens. Do they hire a lawyer to change the "10" to some other number?.

And here I thought it was because it's Detroit.

At this rate, Minneapolis would be lucky to be a Detroit-tier shithole instead of a Camden-tier one.

It's already updated. The city will allow it. Still bad that the city let those places get destroyed

From the Minneapolis star tribune article cited in the update,

Though Minneapolis officials will no longer force property owners to pay their taxes for a demolition permit, a spokeswoman for the city said that individuals who clear their lots without first paying their taxes will be “guilty of a gross misdemeanor.”

Their hearts are still in the right place. :/

What if property owners say "fuck it" and leave the pile of rubble alone? Will the city fine them for illegal dumping?

Perhaps they're trying to clear out the town in advance so that any future autonomous zone doesn't cause so much controversy...

The fact that the city is requiring people to get fucking permits to clean up the mess that only happened because the city and the State allowed this chaos to occur is insane.

I saw a report of an Ethiopian business owner in Minneapolis who was charged something like $3700 by the city when they put up a fence around the rubble of his business. It's absolute madness.

Minneapolis is totally fucked. I'm leaving the area come next Spring and I know my family isn't going to be the only one pulling up roots and getting away. How you can be even a centrist and look around at what's happening and come to the conclusion that everything is fine is beyond me.

Get out while you still can.
