Now that I'm not really gaming anymore.... FUCK IT!

add MORE loot boxes and MORE compulsion generating mechanics. SUCK THAT MONEY OUT OF THEM LOSERS, AND REMEMBER TO ADD SOME TITTYS BECAUSE YOU ARE COMPETING FOR THE LOSER DOLLAR WITH ONLYFANS!

You can't stop people from gambling. It will just keep evolving and make things worse from the shadows. If people want to ruin themselves, let them.

I don't care if you ruin yourself, I care that these shitty practices have ruined games.

Sure, but considering these games are going to be played by kids I'm ok with not allowing video game publishers to start grooming their gambling addictions.

They already got rid of the gambling games in Pokemon.

Not the Pokemon trading card game - that's a loot box and ergo, gambling.

Oh, in that case yes I would argue that parents shouldn't be letting young kids play those either. I had my own phase where I spent way to much cash on Magic and there is definitely an addictive quality to pack opening.

Problem with videos games (particularly mobile games) are the degree to which they've been tailored to target people with a propensity to addictive behaviors. Games that dynamically scale up failure rates to encourage purchases, mining user data to estimate your income level and how much you're likely to spend (or allow to be spent), hiring psychologists to help guide decisions to encourage addiction and skinning this all around a game tailored to 7 year old is a bit much imo.

I'm all for letting adults make these decisions on their own. But we don't let companies that sell alcohol, nicotine products or pot advertise to and target kids. I'm ok with our gambling laws being applied to games as well, seeing as many of these mechanics are already operating in legal grey areas.

If loot boxes only provide cosmetic affects (like Overwatch) then i don't see them as gambling. Anymore than collectible cards or kids vending machines.

You use this loose of a definition of "gambling" then, technically, GRINDING in an RPG game is gambling.

GRINDING in an RPG game is gambling.

It isn't pay-per-roll, not gambling.

Having never been in a more conservative gaming community until now, I'll be interested to see the opinions of loot boxes and microtransactions here.

Personally, I hate them. I'm also not interested in buying them so it's no skin off my back. I don't really believe in the government banning things though.

Either deregulate gambling entirely OR lock all pay-for-rng mechanics, including surprise eggs and bazooka joe comics and mystery flavor or whatever other ridiculous example you can come up with, behind an age gate limited to 21+(or 18 or 16+, whatever the current age slot machines are limited to).

I'm fine with either outcome but the current situation is entirely inconsistent.
