Halo suffered the same fate as most media products these days, somebody thought they could "educate" the original fans of the franchise by "fixing" the issues of the property. Namely Halo fans liked Halo for the wrong reasons and our betters would make it worthy of praise.

There are a lot of explanations for why modern western media is so shit and gay, and most of them are true simultaneously. The one that really stuck out for me, however, was the theory that nothing gets the studio greenlight without attaching a famous pre-established IP to it. The money people are risk averse, so they want a preexisting fanbase as a reliable audience "floor" for any new media. The leftist creatives know this, so they eagerly latch on to beloved IPs as trojan horses for their own stories (which would normally never be optioned because they are so shit and gay). The end result is a Hollywood machine that systematically destroys everything you love.

That explanation made more sense early on in the woke era, but they've repeatedly ruined and bankrupted so many previously profitable series at this point that I'm not sure I'm convinced the money people actually are risk-averse and care about making money like they should. They just keep giving hundreds of millions of dollars to wokists who piss it away and lose the investors billions, and they've done with like 14 or 15 major franchises at this point.

If they only did it to a handful and then the woke era collapse once the investors realized their money was being wasted, I might buy it. But they've gotten away with it too many times for too long for me to be entirely convinced that's a major factor. For some reason, the money people and investors just keep letting them do it, even with a provable track record of failure.

And we know that in the past, a movie or show that lost money, even if it was popular, was enough to shut it down fast. Dredd is a cult classic but didn't get a sequel because it didn't make enough money. The infamous Firefly was also popular, but just not popular enough overall to make enough money to get renewed. There are hundreds of examples of shows and movies and even games where they might have been legitimately good and had a fanbase, but the beancounters decided to cut their loses and cancel it because it didn't make enough money. It might have even been somewhat profitable, but if it wasn't profitable enough, it got shitcanned.

And then in the woke era, they suddenly keep underwriting dozens of sequels and spinoffs and reimaginings that all actually lose hundreds of millions, but they keep getting made. Something changed.

The Life for Halo 3: ODST is the only live-action Halo we need.

Shame on you for even suggesting otherwise. "Tarkov!"

I know some here hate the whole 'long video essay ripping on some movie or show' thing. But for a game series that was such a major part of my time in high school, every time I am reminded that there even was a Halo TV show, it's like I'm learning it for the first time. I was never going to watch a single second of this dumpster fire, despite the fact that if you told me back around the early 00s that there would be a Halo show, I would have lost my mind.

The Halo TV series is so shamelessly mediocre and shit that it's not even worthy of remembering as 'the time they butchered Halo'. It's so bad it's not even memorable for being bad. It could just not exist at all and I don't think anyone would even notice. I don't even see it being brought up basically ever in threads and discussions about how they ruined this or that franchise. So if like me, you just got reminded that there was a terrible Halo show, 1: I'm sorry. And 2: Fringy does a pretty funny job of critiquing it.

Video essays are like any other media - some are good, most are bad. The format itself isn't really to blame, although brevity is still usually the soul of wit. E;R's takedown of the Halo tv series is, predictably, the best, and it's only like 20 minutes.

I generally hate them, but I don't mind if they are around. It's just not for me. I'll almost always pick a reading form over a video. Funny enough I did little more than click a few frames across that video and saw all I needed. I saw the pink haired chick, token black, some Asian kids dressed weird, and what looks like a lot of terrible acting.

I'm not sure they could have made a good TV series if not in Halo 2 days. It wouldn't be successful mainstream either if it was any good. I just don't think whatever lore of Halo would have ever made a series outside of a nerd niche. Which used to be fine, but now it has to be trendy nerd slop.
