Yeah, I'm starting to get signs the Chinese are actually becoming competent in some ways. For years they absolutely did nothing but copy. They are starting to show some aptitude at copy and then improve. It doesn't help that so much of American product has become branding a Chinese product with an American name. Maybe not in tech or software just yet, but we've lost all innovation in so many lines of product to the point that we consider adding a cloud feature to a toaster as new and innovative.
The lack of meritocracy is going to kill us anyway to that point. I mean we focus on DEI hires, and they focus on merit. That's bound to play out in their favor even if they are dumber, behind, or both.

China leadership is competent, it's just accompanied by a culture of scamming, thieving, and avoiding accountability.
A lot like ours (competence notwithstanding), except openly so.
