I've noticed a ton recently as I'd say both video games and movies I've gone 15+ years back and often way older with movies. I've been watching a lot of the movies from before I was born.
I notice so much now. Everything from simply having a beautiful woman exist, to tons and tons of things they say, to the fact that a lot of the older stuff is still propaganda it's just propaganda for things that were progressive then and with the shifting overton window are centrist or right wing now. There's a lot more moral ambiguity too. Seems like everything now has to make it super clear which answer the movie is telling you is right.
No doubt. Everything is dumbed down. I'm sure I could dig up all sorts of media geared towards kids from the past that is more intelligent than an "M game" for example.
Yeah this was something I noticed when I recently went back to rewatch the Dirty Harry series. The only truly based entry was the one directed and produced by Clint Eastwood himself.
The first film had a LOT of progressive elements in it, which I had not noticed before until I recently rewatched it. For instance, the main villain targets an actual nigger faggot in a faggot park, and Harry and the rest of the police force have to protect a literal niggerfaggot from being attacked by the crazy villain.
Harry is also on stakeout and notices some dyjes walking down the street, and later they show three dykes making out.
Harry's partner is also a Mexican.
That became a staple of the series -- pairing Harry with women, blacks, and Chinamen. Only the film that Eastwood directed saw ZERO DEI hires for partners, no faggotry, and nothing progressive. It was the most based entry in the series and also had his second most quoted line in it.
The propaganda was always present, but it was distributed slightly more covertly back then. Also the dialogue was more intelligent. These days everything is dumbed down and the woke elements are completely in your face.
It's amazing what you notice about older media that would have gone right over your head 20 years ago.
Miami Vice seems like a very conservative show by today's standards, until you really look at some of the things it pushed like tolerance for gays and racial issues. Back then it was actually very progressive, but it is entertaining enough that unless you know what to look for it just slips right by. Today's shows aren't entertaining, so the propaganda sticks out like a sore thumb.
