Corporations do all that nonsense too. I once looked at my DNS logs for corporate laptop connected to my WiFi. Starting searching for what it was reaching out to. It's shocking. 24/7 phoning home telemetry and the volume DNS requests from a idle corporate laptop was more than the entire rest of my home network combined. I ended up setting up a specific Wifi and VLAN just to connect that crap to and then DNS blocking everything I could. I'm sure it still goes thru when it's on VPN, but I don't leave on when working. They also run everything at a snails pace. If I recall the last time I checked it had nearly if not the best CPU of any device in my entire house and there's so much bullshit scanning it runs like a 10 year old budget machine.
I have been on teams that are in charge of both deploying those agents and consuming the data that comes back from them. I promise you that some of what is out there is far worse than most people imagine it to be.
