Isn't a lot of the hunt for Gollum east of the Anduin and north of Mordor? (I am assuming that is what the link is about archive.ph isn't loading for me)
Turkic/Mongolian/Alan inspired race incursions are canon in that area. Even the Jackson Two Towers had those guys in the masks coming out of the gate there.
Only in the south. They were called Southrons by the Gondorians and Haradrim by the Elves because 'Harad' means 'south'. In TTT they were only deploying through the gate on their way to Gondor, they're presumed to have already arrived in Mordor from the south.
Southrons are Arab/African inspired. Easterlings, like the Wainriders, also sporadically attack Rohan and Gondor from the plains between Mordor and Mirkwood, sometimes attacking Rohan via the "undeeps".
