I've been stuck in introvert hell for 15 years.
Went to uni, got depression since my major wasn't what I expected. Went on SSRIS, slowly picked myself up, and finished a computer science degree over 10 years. Only to torpedo my career by opposing my employer's DIE policies publicly. Found another job elsewhere, but got laid off in the current tech slump. Just after I stopped taking the pills, too. I've been unable to find anything else in a year and half. At this point, I'm not sure I even want to anymore. My resume gap is becoming a big handicap. It feels like I've fallen back where I started.
I'm not even that smart, but the 'tism pushed me in that category...
Normal jobs seem lame and depressing. I’ve taught guitar lessons to about 100 students per week for more than 20 years now, and I do things like arborist work or snow removal in the mornings. Never had a “normal” or corporate job, and sometimes have stressed about it and the fact that I’ll never be rich, but I get by fine and I have no responsibilities and no stress and no debt. I’m a lot less anxious about my lack of a “career” these days.

You should really look into freelance contract work. It's what got me through the downturns until I found something steady.
