Back in 2011 I got hoodwinked when a family member gave me Skyrim for Christmas. Popped in the disc and discovered everything was locked behind Steam. Broke down and created an account. Steam's a good platform, but I'll always remember that I was strong-armed into using it.

Same. Although I did discover the flash sales that were on top of regular sales. That’s how I got Papers Please for $1.
You notice how we don't get those anymore?
Yeah. I remember sales were pretty damn good, nowadays sales are only good for 10+ year old titles or games that are already cheap.

yeah PC discs ceased being a thing since 2009 when i bought company of heroes and the disk was literally empty with just steam launcher
granted there are always options on GOG or just pirate the damn thing, on console you have only two options
disks and digital downloads from the storefront, nothing else unless you mod your console (i.e JTAG)
frankly speaking the digital only shit isn't really a problem for PC because game keys are dirt cheap and there is always piracy
i don't even have a disk drive on this machine
