Mixtape came out yesterday. It's a 2-3 hour long walking sim that features all teenage girl protagonists and preys on 90s nostalgia. It's already one of the highest rated games of the year.
Every review gushes about the licensed soundtrack, which has nothing to do with the actual game. Every review also begrudgingly admits that there is almost no gameplay in this video game.
Oh, and there are fewer than 2k people playing it on steam. Plus it runs like total ass.
Now we just need a series of coordinated articles attacking gamers and we'll be right back where we started.
I've never heard of it so I looked it up on Steam. That art style is one of the most jarring and nauseating attempts at being being "artistic" that I've ever seen. It's basically that "just because you're unique, doesn't mean you're useful" picture of a bent fork, but applied to character design. Whoever designed the look of this game clearly wanted to be different and noticeable, but instead just made another game with that overdone pastel color palette with misshapen body features and pretend brush stroke shading. You can tell whoever designed it was thinking "fuck yeah, this is gonna look so cool and edgy and special" and it just looks like ass instead.
Also, I looked up this allegedly amazing "90s soundtrack", and it's all faggot music. It's the shit the "quirky" artist chicks who would wear vests with a lot of random buttons on them would listen to and the faggy simp dudes trying to fuck them. They should have used skate punk/ska, but of course no one ever trying to recapture the 90s uses skate punk/ska, because the people who make 90s nostalgia were all artsy fags back then and not actually out doing shit with friends.
No matter what era they're trying to rip off, this sort of shit always only captures the 'lay on my bed by myself listening to vinyl' vibe, because that's the sort of boring and friendless losers the people making this shit always were.
The reviews describe the look as stop motion like similar to "Into the Spiderverse"
Which also looked like ass.
