The idea is that without GamerGate and it raising the general awareness of how bad things really are in the culture we wouldn't have had the rise of Trump and other outsider politicians and this never would have been investigated or questioned. The fact that you think it's literal is just you being a contrarian faggot and you should probably just stop.
both of those "noticings" happened in parallel. The noticing of fake news/theatrical politics happened way before Gamer Gate, just because you only noticed those because of Gamer Gate doesnt mean that was the timeline
