Agreed completely, but keep in mind that the nuclear family is itself one phase in the campaign to destroy the extended family. An atomized family is not significantly better off than an atomized individual.
I think for a huge chunk of the population the extended family is already destroyed. Lots of people move to entirely different regions of the country for work and that extended family gets scattered across the country pretty quickly. Hard to maintain those ties when everyone lives a full days drive away or more.
