This is jeet apologia. None of the examples given do anything to help survive under foreign occupation. Exacerbating the cobra problem by scamming the British bounty program meant to solve it doesn't harm the British. It just means more jeets get killed by cobras. There's no higher purpose to their rat like behavior. They're just inherently dishonest.
Funny thing about that snake bounty, the same thing happened in Florida and because of how many were claiming bounties, they cancelled it thinking they were cheating the same way.
The reason I don't think they were cheating is because it was rednecks doing it, they LOVE hunting so much I can believe they were the grim reapers of snakes lol.
I recall a weather event in Florida a few years back (drought? flood? storm? I forget which) drove a TON of snakes out of hiding. A LOT of them were invader species, more that estimated by quite a bit :/
So yes, I agree that rednecks are just happy to hunt them & very good at it too.
Meanwhile, New England and the West Coast are overrun with deer thanks to their onerous gun laws.
I think instead of struggling against foreign occupation it might be the fact they were subjects/slaves and had no stakes in the land and the properties, same thing with Chinese peasants. People don't have prides in keeping the area clean if they don't have any sense of ownership in the form of private property or prosperity, who cares if the streets and lands are dirty if it all belongs to the king/landlords/government who took 90% of your rice as rent and taxes and treated you like dirt and can take away what little you have for whatever reason.
As for the cobra bounty, jeets always gave me the feeling of being "clever" at scamming for petty profits (especially when quickly darting their eyes trying to think up words to scam you, not realizing you can tell they're obviously trying to pull a fast one) but aren't actually smart or wise for long term prosperity for the whole group. They thought they were clever and scammed the brits, not realizing or just not cared the effects when scams are busted because it's not them suffering the consequences
