Several reasons. First, we're stretched thin. Second, our doctrine is still stuck in the 90s. Third, their doctrine is actually modern even if the rest of their country isn't. Fourth, they've been stockpiling weapons for literally fifty years while we have been wasting our supplies propping up the Zelensky regime. Fifth, due to decades of leftist entryism our military personnel are degraded by women, perverts and low IQ mud people. Sixth, the war was entered into in the first place due to external pressure and not adequately planned out. Seventh, there was no real operational objective to begin with, so now we're just flailing around. Eighth, turns out that real war isn't a video game so just killing their leader doesn't give a "you win" screen.
