It's about working the oil fields in Texas.
The characters are 90+% White and there are basically zero uggos and the main character's daughter is a stonecold 10, pleasant, fun, sexy and interesting, albeit a bit ditsy - bit it just lightens the mood.
Billy Bob Thornton stars and plays a compelling character; people die doing dangerous work, Sam Eliot plays his 82 year old dad compellingly. The Hispastics are all either drug dealers or assholes with a satisfying early plot line that I won't spoil for you. The police, national guard and governor are on Our side.
There are minimal blacks and only one valorised one but he only comes and goes and is free of any trace of Wakanda Forever horseshit. John Hamm plays an oil magnate that owns the company and Demi Moore plays his wife and it works imo.
It's a bit heavy on female interpersonal drama, particularly BBT's wife but it gets handled in a pretty red pilled and/or funny way.
There's a lot of action, the story moves along at pace. I think it's objectively good and not just by comparison to the steaming piles of woke horseshit we've had to put up with for the past decade or two.
Anyway, recommend if you missed it. There's been 20 1-hour episodes so far across 2 seasons with a good setup for an interesting third.
I think they'll be a love interest with the daughter
She already has a boyfriend. I hope you are wrong lol
He's likely not wrong.
This has been a common theme in movies/shows for some time now.
The only reason to add such a character is to either convert other people's opinions about them or convert that character back to normal. I have never seen the latter happen in any show/movie. I have seen the former happen 100% of the time.
Also, heteroconversion is a big thing amongst the Hollywood types -- it happens all the time with female characters. I'm not aware of it happening to a male character (yet), but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
They'll take a straight female character and then have her get turned out by a lesbian/trans/dyke/etc., it happened in that show This Is Us, Desperate Housewives, in that GenV spin-off of The Boys, there are various romantic comedies and drama films where that was the theme, heck, the upcoming season of Bridgerton is literally about a straight woman getting converted into a lesbian after her husband died.
I think Mpetey123 is spot-on with this one just based on basic pattern recognition. But, like you, I also hope that isn't the case, as it would be nice if the show ended without steeping into typical Hollywood degeneracy.
It should be noted that they hired an actual tranny they-them degenerate to play the character (Bobbi Salvör Menuez). Which says to me the producers of Landman fully intend its character to be likable and sympathetic. No way in hell would a tranny willingly preach against itself. Plus, if shows they believe that only a genuine tranny could properly portray a tranny character (while at the same time, having zero issues with a 33-year-old playing a college student).
That's a very salient point that I had not actually thought about (then again, I didn't know they hired an actual tranny for the role).
They did an identical thing with that Stephen Dorff show, The Deputy -- the trailers for it looked pretty badarse, but then it turned into yet another lefty-pulpit complete with a tranny deuteragonist who was constantly reminding the audience about the lifestyle of degenerates.
I heard the Bridgerton one wasn’t even in the books and typical Netflix added it. Granted I haven’t read the books but I know it wasn’t super diverse like the show. Imagine bucking the trend and having a woman who “became lesbian” in her late teens falls in love with a man in her 30s.
I have actually been thinking about that a lot lately -- we practically never see a degenerate turn back to normal in media. I think there was only one biographical movie called I Am Michael starring James Franco, but it hardly received any press.
I believe in California they made it illegal to help a degenerate convert back to normal, because they consider it gay-conversion therapy (though they're totally fine with heterosexuals being indoctrinated, goaded, influenced, or even raped into the homosexual lifestyle).
