Master thread on the 2015-2022 closure of the Internet, the process by which every major Internet platform went from broadly open with a few basic guidelines to strict narrative enforcement, often with the collaboration of govts and outsourcing moderation power to NGOs. (twitter.com)

Have ya'll forgotten what happened in 2014?

Those of you who were there at the time, do you still think GamerGate happened in a vacuum? Has it ever occurred to you that the ban happy ass holes that locked all discussion about GamerGate down are the same ban happy assholes that started locking down the formerly free internet?

Yeah, as necessary as it is to highlight the changes in this period, this is an incomplete analysis without Gamergate. Reddit's comment graveyard due to GG censorship was 2014. Moot torpedoed 4chan's free speech and pretty much sold the entire site in 2015 because GG broke his brain. Wikipedia finally went full mask off propagandism over GG, with Jimmy Wales stepping in personally on an article for the first time as far as I'm aware. Countless supposedly independent 'press' outlets colluded to narrative-craft and crush any alternatives, while heavily censoring their forums and comment sections.

Hand in hand with this, though not so explicitly GG related, was the disappearance of comment sections from news sites and practically everywhere on the net, barring a few exceptions like the Daily Mail and right wing sites that sprang up to fill the coverage gap. The internet never used to have to rely on monolithic 'platforms' like YT or Twitter at all. Even The Guardian used to allow comments on most articles and had an opinion column section spawning hundreds of pages of debate, but this concept became useless to the regime and had to disappear from the internet since the neocommie establishment was getting clowned on its own websites. (EDIT: forgot to mention this was what made Gab's Dissenter plugin popular for a while).

Hilarious that this all happened due to the modern day Helen of Troy being a lying whore who was only fought over because industry nerds have low standards
