The last Republican president that actually represented the US citizens was Nixon and that's why they removed him.

The modern two-party presidential campaign was shaped in 1896 when JD Rockefeller, JP Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and other "industry titans" pooled their money to buy the presidential race for William McKinley, who chose to spend on attack ads instead of traveling and meeting everyday Americans.

McKinley was later assassinated, which elevated Teddy Roosevelt to the presidency.

In his farewell address in 1961, Dwight Eisenhower warned the American public about the military-industrial complex and cautioned against the influence of a large military establishment on national policy and spending.

In 1971 Nixon removed the USD from the Gold Standard and transitioned it into a fiat currency.

Ronald Reagan's Amnesty Act (Immigration Reform and Control Act) single-handedly turned California into a forever-blue state.

From 1952 through 1988, Republican Presidential nominees won California 9 out of 10 times.

No Republican Presidential nominee has won the state and not even one Senator has been elected from California since 1988.
