I think the simple explanation here is that he was simply aiming for the head and happened to not be an expert marksman with thousands of hours at the range. Or did you mean that shooting for anything other than center of mass(ie, the chest) is amateurish?
The latter. If you're a professional who wants someone dead, you shoot for center mass with a weapon you've pre zero'ed and you fire more than once to make sure of it.
If you're a grungy little pervert mad that Popular Podcaster(tm) said there are only two genders, you try to shoot for the head and immediately run whether you hit or miss, because you're a drama queen who had to psych yourself up to take even the one shot with a stolen rifle.
