I have friends who were GWOT National Guard veterans. They were told that if they volunteered for combat, they would get benefits like active duty. They didn't, because it wasn't a war.
And Vietnam was just a police action. When I was in the Air Force I met some Vietnam vets around the base and they were still bitter. Don’t blame them
