No military in the world is going to publicly admit to the actual casualties and damage while the war is raging on.
I'm forever reminded of the Imperial Japanese Navy's "overwhelming victories" propaganda in the Pacific theater during WW2, when anyone with working eyes and a map would've noticed said "victories" kept getting closer and closer to the mainland.
