They're trying to hit this issue with a shovel when they need a fine sculpting chisel instead.
Plus based on the timing it feels retaliatory. This DA seems very corrupt, and I'd suspect her of being paid to litigate for others.
Where the procedure of it all is the cost, whether the case has merit is just irrelevant. Throw enough law at them and they'll be paying one way or another to make it go away.
It's the thousand hours of cleanup versus a pound of shit flinging situation. It takes infinitely more time to make something right than it does to fuck it up.
I'd like loot boxes to go away personally so that things can be earned in game again rather than purchased. ... but not like this.
This is not a mentality shift towards a player's enjoyment of the game, but hypothetically if it goes through, it would be law compliance instead. Which will just make people at the top in gaming bitter and resentful.

This is the problem that we face. When there are groups of people who don't share our values operating in our society's institutions, no amount of paper will stop them.
The reason that we have 500,000,000 laws and it's all a mess is because the bandaid that western men have used for the last couple centuries is "We'll make a law against it". This just kicks the can down the road.
I'd say this is more of a case of "hey, we let you run unregulated gambling for years, but now you made us mad so we're actually going to enforce the law."
It might not be the worst thing ever. I hope Valve just moves against lootboxing and ends it that way. As far as executives in gaming getting bitter and resentful, they already hate you or basically see you as a digital wallet, so who cares? Lol
To be honest, if valve actually pulls the plug on those jewboxes they'd be absolutely sainted by the entire industry
